MAA is Excited to Announce Spring Workshops

Intro to Digital Painting Workshop
with Penny Mause

March 29th
1pm - 4pm

At Oasis Learning Center & Gallery

We are thrilled to announce that the Montgomery Art Association is hosting Penny Mause's Intro to Digital Painting Workshop in collaboration with the Oasis Art Gallery on Saturday, March 29th!

Learn a new art medium, on your iPad! Penny Mause, an instructor at the Yellow Barn Studio in Glen Echo, Maryland, will lead a workshop focused on discovering the magical and exciting world of digital painting. Using just your iPad and Apple pencil, you can create vivid and detailed work without all the mess of traditional mediums. This will be mostly an informative workshop, with a presentation on the possibilities of digital art, and demonstrations to follow.

You’ll gain an understanding of the basics to get you started in the app Procreate, which is Penny's preferred digital painting platform.

What to bring:

  • Download the Procreate app prior to the workshop if you can. If you have an iPad with an Apple Pencil, bringing it to the workshop would be preferred, or if you’d just like to gain more knowledge about digital art in general, that works as well.

Member Fee: $30 per MAA member registration fee. Participants must be 18 years or older.

Registration is open early for members and their guests until February 28. Members may invite a non-member guest to come with them prior to registration being open to the public. The non-member fee for guests is $40.

Non-member Fee: $40 per non-MAA member registration fee. Participants must be 18 years or older. Registration will be open to the public starting on March 1.

Workshop Limit: Total number of participants for this workshop is 20.

Workshop Location: Oasis Learning Center, Macy’s Home Store (2nd floor) 7125 Democracy Blvd, Bethesda, MD 20817

Workshop Instructor: Penny Mause grew up in NW Washington DC, where she currently lives. She studied at University of Massachusetts Boston, earning her Bachelor’s of English Literature. After many different career trajectories, she finally found her way back to her “forever” passion…creating art.

The pandemic was a catalyst for this change, and enabled her to spend many hours honing her craft and studying. She has been painting in oils since the age of 15, and it is her preferred medium. 10 years ago, she discovered digital art, and has since incorporated that into her field of study.

Penny has had gallery shows as well as solo shows, and continues to explore both digital and traditional art.

Questions:  Please contact  Angie Coulson  if you have any questions about this workshop.
