Spend the day at a unique venue in Montgomery County, sketching and painting historic trolley cars. MAA and the National Capital Trolley Museum are sponsoring a day of plein air painting, drawing, and Urban Sketching at the museum in Colesville, and you’re invited to participate!

The museum houses the world's largest collection of street cars and trolleys, and a number of them will be set out on the tracks for you to draw and paint. There are indoor exhibits, and throughout the day you'll have access to a hospitality room with snacks and drinks. You can even go for a trolley ride.

All participating artists are invited to show their work in a free companion exhibit at the museum itself. Yes, your art will be in a museum! And in a few weeks, you can join the reception and silent auction called "Sip, Rock 'n' Ride."

Date: Saturday, September 23
Time: 9:30 am-4 pm

About the venue: The small nonprofit museum restores and operates historic street cars, trolleys, and trams from around the globe. in fact, it possesses the world's largest collection. Exhibits look at the history of street cars, and a one-mile track allows you to take a ride in some of the historic trolleys. More info: dctrolley.org

Registration: $5 for MAA members, $10 for non-members, free for Montgomery College students. Includes museum admission for artists, access to a reception suite with snacks and drinks, and a trolley ride. (Any non-artist guests you bring would need to purchase a museum entry ticket.

What to bring: Bring all materials and equipment needed for making art outdoors. If needed, please also bring a trash bag to collect your waste items--we want to leave the venue as clean as we find it. If you plan to include your art in our exhibition, ihighly encouraged  to be framed and wired and ready to hang -- either plan ahead and bring the frame with you that day, or return on September 26.

Volunteering: As we are an all-volunteer crew, we ask that you volunteer a small amount of your time as well, to help make this event a success. A list of volunteer tasks will be sent to registrants; we ask that you select one. Thank you for your service to MAA.

Safety talk:
All artists are required to attend a 10 am security and safety briefing. Please plan to arrive by then. The trolley cars will be moving occasionally during the event, and we want to keep everyone safe. Artists are responsible for their own safety (eg watch where you walk, and please do not set up your easel on the tracks.)
