The second plein air paint-out in the month of February is a special occasion for the MAA Plein Air Artists and Urban Sketchers to make artworks around the well known landmark in Washington DC, the DuPont Circle. The traffic circle is located at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue NW, P Street NW, and 19th Street NW. The Circle is named for Samuel Francis Du Pont (1803-1865), a rear admiral in the United States Navy, and a member of the prominent Du Pont family. With dozens of bistros, bars, boutiques and museums, the neighborhood offers a treasure of inspiration for artists. The Fountain itself offers classical beauty in a contemporary setting.
What to expect: Great cityscape with several historic structures, cafes, street scenes, complete with a Fountain, open space with lot of room to sit and paint or sketch, great restaurants close-by.
Be prepared for cold and wind. Gloves, scarves and hats are necessary. Hands and feet warmers recommended.
