Registration

  • Registration includes workshop attendance, a guaranteed spot and waived registration fee for MAA's Our Stories online exhibition, and speaker's spot at our online storytelling happy hour with the Bender Jewish Community Center on April 12.

Registration is now closed.

This workshop is part of a series of events around the “Our Stories, Our Journeys” online exhibition in April. By participating in this workshop, members also commit to 1) submitting a work to the “Our Stories, Our Journeys’ online exhibition and 2) presenting their art and story on April 12 at a special online event co-produced with the Bender Jewish Community Center. We’ll offer rehearsals before the JCC event for those who wish to practice and receive feedback from fellow participants.

About the Workshop: Art is a visual way to tell a story. As artists who frequently meet with viewers and audiences, sometimes we must also verbalize the story behind the art. Are you always prepared to tell a compelling story in that moment?

Esther Choy, founder of The Leadership Story Lab in Chicago and author of "Let the Story Do the Work," will lead this customized workshop for up to 25 MAA members. Esther will teach you how to tell a crisp and enticing story about your art in order to deeply engage your art admirers in you and your work.

Esther founded the lab in 2010 to help others leverage the art of persuasive storytelling to create extraordinary opportunities. What do good storytellers need? “Knowledge of tried-and-true storytelling techniques and feedback on what works for their audience,” Esther says.

Participants will receive a complimentary copy of Esther’s book, Let the Story Do the Work. You’ll also be asked to fill out a pre-workshop questionnaire.

Cost: $12 per MAA member. Includes a guaranteed spot in the “Our Stories, Our Journeys” online exhibition, waiver of your show registration fee, and a complimentary copy of the book Let the Story Do the Work by Esther Choy (retail value: $24.95).

Registration: Limited to 25 MAA members. Registration opens Monday, February 22.

Cancellations: Cancellations must be received no later than Friday, March 19, 2021, to receive a refund. No refunds provided on or after March 20, 2021.
