March Member Meeting

Our guest speaker is Christopher Madden, a Washington-area painter and engraver who recently completed a 35-year career as a banknote picture engraver for the U.S. Treasury in Washington DC.  He retired as the lead engraver and his work included images on U.S. currency, postage stamps and the official (engraved) portrait of President Barack Obama.

Chris is a graduate of the Ohio State University and also studied at the Columbus College of Art and Design, the Art Students League of New York and Alexandria, VA, and  Studio Incamminati in Philadelphia.  He is a vice president for the Frederick County Art Association, a member of Gallery 322 in Frederick MD and a regional teacher at the Delaplaine Art Center, the Griffin Art Center, The Yellow Barn at Glen Echo MD and the Frederick Book Arts Center.

Chris also paints each Tuesday at the National Gallery of Art, studying the methods of the masters. His Rushing River Art Studio is in Augusta, WV.  Chris paints primarily at this location for his original work and holds retreats and workshops at this location.
