Join us for Sketch & Jazz Night on March 22

The Montgomery Art Association and AMP by Strathmore are teaming up to host our first Sketch and Jazz Night. Join us at this North Bethesda music venue for a live performance by jazz vocalist Rochelle Rice, socialize with fellow artists and sketch the musician.

AMP by Strathmore is offering $18 tickets to artists and guests ($7 off its regular price). MAA will provide complimentary appetizers to share with our members and their guests.

About Rochelle Rice: A celebrated voice in the DC music scene, Rice provides a unique, jazzy take on pop and R&B. Named “Best Jazz Vocalist” by Washington City Paper, and an alumna of Strathmore’s prestigious Artist in Residence program, Rice is classically trained and has performed on some of the most esteemed stages in the area. Her debut project, WONDER—complete with beautiful original music, a sizzling quartet, and lush strings—showcases her undeniable energy that will move your spirit as she flawlessly weaves a tapestry of soulful, contemporary jazz.

Buying tickets: Go to When the page opens up, click “Buy.” On the popup screen, enter promo code MAA22 and click on the words “apply code” to the right. Then choose Table Seating and complete your purchase at the discounted rate.

What to bring: Sketching materials (such as small sketchbooks, pencils/pens, travel-sized watercolor kit, water container). Keep your materials simple, since there isn’t a lot of space to spread out.

What to expect: The venue opens at 6:30 pm and the show begins at 8 pm. Upon arrival, tell the host you’re with MAA. We’ll sit together at tables lit by tealights. MAA will provide appetizers to share. The venue has a full bar where you can purchase cocktails, beer, wine, soda, etc. You’re welcomed to sketch or just enjoy the show. Before you depart at the end of the evening, we’d love to snap a photo of your sketches to share on social media, if you wouldn’t mind.
