Montgomery Art Association (MAA)

MAA was formed in 1954 and incorporated in 1991 as a 501(c)3 non-profit to support the visual arts and artists in Montgomery County and the D.C. metro area.

Join us! Our mailing address is:
Montgomery Art Association, P.O. Box 2154, Kensington, MD 20891

New members are always welcome!  All artists and art enthusiasts at least 18 of age can join.  Annual dues (covering September 1 – August 31) are $50.  Students enrolled in a full-time degree program at an accredited institution can join for $25.

Member benefits include opportunities for you to:

  • Connect with regional artists and learn about art methods and techniques through MAA events and e-Newsletters,
  • Enroll in periodic art workshops and go on MAA-sponsored museum “field trips” to local galleries
  • Participate in MAA’s online art gallery
  • Learn about local non-juried, small and premier venue shows (some with prizes)–“artportunities”
  • List your art-related business service, and
  • Share your love of art with youth and adults during special events and community fairs.

Our monthly programs, social get-togethers, exhibits, workshops, and museum trips are designed to help you broaden your artistic skills and your personal network.

Our e-Newsletters are also packed with news about members and their work, details about upcoming exhibit opportunities, shows, and more.  Click on the Latest Newsletter tab for the link to the latest e-Newsletter and the Resources page for past issues.

MAA maintains a website,, and also a Facebook page,, both important to keeping our members and followers up-to-date.  Please “Like” us, comment on, and share our content so we can engage with you and your friends!

MAA offers a number of opportunities for members to display and sell their work.  MAA sponsors two premier member shows (with awards) at Friendship Heights and Kensington as well as other important public venues like Brookside Gardens.  Members can also display and sell their work at a number of “small venue shows”.

MAA strives to make a vital contribution to our community:

  • In cooperation with the Montgomery College Art Foundation, MAA provides scholarship funds to foster the education of emerging artists.
  • MAA supports community festivals, like the Wheaton Arts Parade and the Kensington Day of the Book.

MAA uses income received from sales commissions, membership dues, contributions, exhibit entry fees, and subsidized workshop entry fees to finance exhibits and awards, equipment purchases, guest speakers, and other outreach projects.
